Chapter 2 – Discovering a Lasting Hope
Residents in care homes need hope. In fact, everyone needs hope. Hope is an eager anticipation of the future. It is an expected outcome for tomorrow. A huge problem people have is that they tend to put their hope in things the Lord never promised. When what we hope for does not happen or is significantly delayed, we become disappointed, which can lead to anger or despair, which in the end can lead to hopelessness. Hopelessness is like a thick, dark wall between today and tomorrow.
Those who hope in the Lord will have the strength and courage to press on through life’s challenges. They will persevere until our faithful God fulfills His good plans for us, and they will not be disappointed.
Three Lessons on A Lasting Hope:
- A Secure Hope: There is a difference between a hope that is uncertain and hope that is certain and lasting.
- Hope in the Good Shepherd: What it means to hope in Jesus, who sees the bigger picture.
- Hope Beyond Hopelessness: We can learn to trust the Lord in the midst of hopelessness.
